basis for national treatment regarding acquisition of real property. I should be glad of your views whether it would bdesirable and possible to cover India in this agreement. I Section 106 of the Government of India Act read with Item 21 of the Provincial Legislative List makes this difficult, following reservation might be suitable * In India the said right shall not extend to agricultural land, although the Government of India will endeavour to secure that in practice Chinese nationals and companies will continue to be able to

acquire such land in India on the same conditions as nationals and companies of His Majesty". Subject to your views however His Majesty's Government would prefer to exclude India altogether than to attempt any reservation in this case.
